Portrait Of My Percussion Carry-All
Its been many years now that this small piece of 1970's luggage, covered in brown vinyl, with two stainless steel latches, has been holding all my small percussion accessories. A previous owner has printed the name Thatcher in black permanent marker (not my name) between the two slightly oxidized latches. Contents include two small curry bowls that fit inside of each other that I stole from my favorite Indian restaurant, duct tape on the underside lid ( for drum muting), two chains, chopsticks, two metal goblets bought in Peterborough, Ontario ($1),
one of those drums that were used at the end of The Karate Kid that I so wish someone could tell me the name of, one lid to a cardboard scotch tube, and three small hand bells, the kind one would use in a bell choir (thanks Dusty, $0). Missing from the photo: one large shaker/rainstick from Kenya (thanks, Aidan), two tambourines of varying tonal quality, three bells of different shape, color, and tonal quality, various rocks, and two crotale ( both stolen over the years, which I still feel quite a lot of functional guilt about). Shot on Iphone/Toy Camera App/Columbus, Ohio.
